Layla & Lacey ______________________ 2nd day Cross country
Layla ran a rubber curry comb over the silky coat of Lacey's bay pelt. The mare stood calmly next to the rental stall at the competition, her eyes were half closed as she leaned in to the brush enjoying it. Layla had the course in her mind, it was hopefully stuck there until they had to do show jumping tomorrow. She had to admit she was already tired but not because of the dressage test yesturday but because of the hours she had put in to waking up so early. She wasn't much of a morning person and when you had to wake up around 4:30am to go groom your horse you got a little grumpy and drowsy. Layla covered her mouth as she gave a long yawn and Lacey opened her eyes wondering why she had stopped. The mare looked clean and ready to go but Layla wasn't one to not over look something. She set the curry in the box before picking up a soft brush and brushing off loose hair, as she ended by Lacey's rump she did the other side then grabbed the show rag and ran it over the mares body. When she had finished she took out some scissors and cut her hock hairs then her chin whiskers. When she was done she stepped by to admire her work. She smiled before grabbing a apple rounder out of her pocket and handing it to Lacey who eagerly accepted it.
Layla picked up the purple and white saddle pad off the saddle rack. She daintly place it over Lacey's back and adjusted it just above her withers lifting the front up a little so that it wouldn't pinch when she put the saddle on. Layla had already trimmed up Lacey's mane and added an extension to her tail since she wasn't keen on keeping it nice and kept like some of the horses and ponies at the event grounds. She looked down at her wrist watch seeing that it was already 5:15 She had around two hours until it was time for the course and she still hadn't eaten yet. Annie appeared out of the corner of Layla's eye. She could see her older cousin picking up in the stall next to hers. Layla watched her for a moment then remembered she had to tack up still.
A couple minutes later Layla had The saddle and martingale on Lacey and was adjusting her purple bellboots. She had to oil the front of her lets still and had to get the galloping boots on. Layla sighed as she sat down on a hay bale outside the stall, her hands rested on her forehead. I'm way to tired for this. She thought as she looked up at Lacey who stood patiently looking around at the sights. Annie walked over to where Layla was and eyed her before giving her a little punch with her hand. "Whats up with you?" She asked as she rubbed the side of Lacey's neck. Layla looked up pulling back her brown long hair over an ear. "I don't know, I guess I'm just over tired." She said as she felt her stomache tence. "Hey take a little break, a nap or something I still have until 12 till my go so I'll get Lacey ready. You need some sleep." Layla began to shake her head and rise off the hay bale but Annie insisted and sent her off to the car and trailer parked out in the parking lot. "I'll come and wake you in about 20 minutes." She said and Layla nodded her head blinking her eyes before heading off and taking a quick nap.
twenty minutes later Annie shook Layla awake from the car, Layla blinked as she looked up at saw Annie. She rubbed her eyes and yawned before realizing where she was. "Crap." She said under her breathe as she raced past Annie and into the changing room of the trailer. She quickly undressed and got into her show clothes before grabbing her helmet, vest and riding gloves. The weather had turned up frostier than Layla had expected it and little snowflakes made their way to the ground. No, no, no. She looked up at the sky and saw clouds forming over head, they weren't rain clouds but snow clouds and Layla didn't want them.
