The crunching noise of hooves on gravel came into hearing as Annie walked her handsome bay up the gravel driveway of her farm and friend behind her. As they walked through the gates horses ran to the side of the fences, some stayed put in the pastures as they ate their hay that was put out for them over the deep snow. Foals were in their small turnout in the arena until the snow was subsided and stablehands walked along the isles of the three barns. Annie breathed in the aroma of home and turned around,
"This is it!" She called back as she walked up the driveway and finally into the courtyard of the three barns. Their was a pebbled walkway to the three barns and to the parking lot which were shoveled out and Annie dismounted off Apollo, her new compition horse. She patted his neck then ran up her stirrups and loosened his girth before bringing his reins over his neck and walking past the main barn where the training horses and boarders were stabled and the broodmare barn before going into the stallion barn. Some heads popped out of their stalls while the rest were cleaned and empty. Annie pointed to a empty stall as she led Apollo into his own and began to untack him, then grabbed a brush and ran it over his damp body.
Minutes later Annie had a cooling sheet on Apollo and had gone to put away her tack then returned to where the girl had put her horse in a stall about three stalls down from where Apollo was stabled.
"I've got a walker that you can put him on, I was going to put Apollo on it then in say twenty minutes we can grab then again." Annie said as she smiled to the girl and her handsome horse.
